Favourite Films

I've been busy these last few weeks with trying to earn money by doing surveys and taking one of our cats backwards and forwards to the vet. Seems she's got some sort of nervous condition which makes her pull her fur out. I promise you, it's nothing we've been doing wrong but more to do with her stressful life before she came to us. But now, I seem to be back on track and starting to work normal hours. This morning I did a survey which asked me what my favourite film was and why. I chose Mary Poppins (the original 1960's one). I was about 5 at the time and had just come out of hospital after three weeks of being in quarantine due to meningitis. Strictly I shouldn't have come out as I was quite weak and couldn't walk but I was missing my family so much my GP persuaded the hospital to let me go home and he'd look in twice a day to make sure I was OK. It was while I was still quite weak that Mary Poppins came to our local cinema. My sister, five years older than me, wanted to go and see it so Mum and Dad took us all out to see it. My darling Dad carried me from car to cinema and back to the car again. But the one thing that sticks out in my mind is the programmes that we bought. They had a cut out Mary Poppins on the back together with some cut out clothes that you could hook over Mary by little tabs and the one I remember most was the blue and white striped dress she wore when she was holding the St Paul's Cathedral snow globe and singing Tuppence a Bag to the children. I think most people remember Dick van Dyke's awful cockney access but for me, it was definitely that dress and that song which will stick with me. Anyone else out there got a favourite film that'll stay with them forever?
