Why is it said that you should not ask woman her age and man his salary?

It is said that you should never ask woman her age and man his salary. What is the logic behind this? I don't think it would be applicable in today's modern world. As far as I am concerned, I would certainly be more comfortable now, with somebody, especially pretty young girls, asking me about my salary rather than my age

I never ask anyone about their age.No need to most of them lie about it

We should wait for people to open up and be the ones to tell us such information, I think that's the ethical way.
