There's much to do in Louisville. We're not just horse races and bourbon (oops, and I just posted about Whiskey Row!
). We have art in town, too. The Louisville Orchestra is nationally acclaimed. We have opera, one of the major stops on the Broadway play circuit....and today's entry on the list of places I've been to.
#5: J.B. Speed Art Museum
I'll say this: this isn't the coolest art museum I've ever been to. That goes to the Parthenon in Nashville. But yeah, this is a good museum.
I had to go there as part of an art appreciation class in college. I was amazed at the quality of what we have here. We have European and American classics, modern art, Kentucky art, and sculptures.
As with most museums, there's a rotating group of exhibits. A collection of Norman Rockwell paintings just closed. Jackson Pollock works are currently on display (per their web site).
It's nice to know that we can show off culture to the world when they're in town for a horse race and a mint julep.
Here's a video about the Speed when it was being redesigned:

Pollock's paintings look like someone did them after a hard night on Whiskey Row.
