Louisville has much to offer the tourist and the resident alike. I haven't seen half of it, which is why I'm celebrating Louisville in two sections: places I have been to, and places I haven't. Here's a place that I have been a lot of times, and I love.
#4: Waterfront Park
Guess where this is?
Waterfront Park is an expansive area downtown, taking full advantage of the fact that we sit right on the Ohio River. It's, in many regards, Louisville's front yard. We have the semi-annual Hike, Bike, and Paddle events there. The nationally-known Forecastle Festival is held there, as are a number of other concerts (such as Waterfront Wednesday, a monthly concert sponsored by the local public radio station) on what's called the Great Lawn. It's also the home of Thunder Over Louisville, the annual air show and fireworks display that "officially" opens the Kentucky Derby Festival every April.
The one down side is that we do get floods here, and it'll frequently flood. That area is amazingly resilient, though, and it greens back up in a jiffy after floods (once the debris from the river is removed, that is).
It's a fun place to visit, to sit and enjoy the river, or to walk.

You just head on down to L.A, pick up John, and head this way!

Yep. There are a lot of things you can pay for there (food, bicycle rental, etc.), but unless there’s a paid even like Forecastle it’s all free.
