I have had PTSD for 15 or so years, about two years ago I underwent EMDR treatment which was absolutely live changing. It stabilised my moods significantly and also helped me to understand where my negative feelings were coming from. It numbed the feelings associated with the trauma and helped me start to grow as an adult (I feel like I was stuck int he mind of a teenager before this).
I was meant to have CBT treatment afterwards but it was never arranged at the time. I started going a few weeks ago but I don't really know what I am meant to be doing. I thought I would have "home work" to do but I don't feel like I am 'doing' anything yet. I have only had two sessions so I will keep going and give it a good try.
Does anyone have any experience with CBT?
Did it seem pointless when you first started?
Did it get better?

Funny, I just checked out a book about mindfulness-based CBT from the library!
I've taken mindfulness meditation classes and it really has helped my depression. It's so relaxing to sit down and meditate on a Psalm and focus on the now (which is one of the things mindfulness teaches).
Good luck.

I have never tried meditation but I probably should, I struggle to sit down for long enough though lol x

@Shellyjane — it’s quite difficult at first, but part of the success of realizing your mind is wandering and being able to gently guide it back.

@FourWalls I am quite competitive with myself so maybe I could turn it into a challenge :)

If I have it, I'm not aware of it. I try to solve all of my own problems with moods.

@Shellyjane I apologize as I didn't really know what it really was. I didn't realize how serious it was. Are you able to talk about the trauma that caused this situation or is it still so painful that it best kept private?

@1hopefulman That's ok it doesn't help that I abbreviated it. No I talk about it quite opening now since having the EMDR. I find talking about it can sometimes help others seek help. Although it's not something I talk about online in detail for obvious reasons. x

PTSD Is a very complex condition it's not something that you can just sort out on your own. That's why people suffer with it for so long. I am glad you don't have it though. I wouldn't wish it on anyone x
