Meteor Crater Landmark in Winslow, AZ

Slowly but surely getting through my own little “Arizona series” I have started here. How is everyone’s Tuesday going? I was busy this morning with errands and finally now carving out some exercise time. While I was researching things to see in Arizona, this came up: the meteor crater landmark. It is a mile wide hole due to a meteor crashing into the earth in small town Winslow, AZ about 40 miles east of Flagstaff. Supposedly they say the meteor had to be 150 feet in diameter to make a hole that large. I didn’t do enough research on this one, as I thought it was more of a side-of-the-road type attraction maybe government owned. We were all surprised and put off when we arrived having to pay $18 admission for each adult. My friends I went with were a teeny bit put off with me. The place is some privately owned commercialized business with a little museum area that talks about craters, meteors and asteroids. And then you can walk out around (but not inside) the crash site. I was not enamored by this place and it felt a waste of almost $60 plus the gas and time it took to get there. Have you ever seen something like that?

I think continuing driving was a good choice.

I have been to Meteor Crater and I loved it. We didn't have to pay when we went, this was like 15 years ago. I was so happy because I love space and all that haha

Oh yay! Someone else who has been there! I wasn’t sure there would be since this is tucked away in the middle of no where. I think I would have had a better experience if it were like $7 per person and not $18. That seemed like highway robbery especially since there wasn’t much to it. But it is pretty cool and massive to look at. I attempted to post a pic but it didn’t work. I wonder if it looks the same!

@maezee It is a tourist attraction so of course, it is going to be ridiculously expensive it is also by a reservation so that and the petrified forest (which I have also been to) really help Navajo in the area.
