If you count vinyl, cassettes, and compact disc's, I've probably owned at least 3000 albums over the years, and a good number of those were new wave records. These are my ten favorites. We are at #10: True Colours by Split Enz. Split Enz was a new wave band out of New Zealand, led by vocalist/guitarist brothers Tim and Neil Finn. With eight songs in the APRA Top 100 New Zealand Songs of All Time, they could be considered the kings of New Zealand rock and roll, as they hold the record for that distinction. Their 1980 album, True Colours, was their fifth, and oh, what a record! While the album is best known for the international hit, "I Got You" (#1 in both Australia and New Zealand, and charted in a total of six countries,) there wasn't a bad song on that thing. The sheer energy of the album's opener, "Shark Attack," is worth it alone. Toss in great tunes such as "Nobody Takes Me Seriously," "Poor Boy," and "I Hope I Never," and True Colours is a keeper. A bona fide keeper! (Tim Finn moved on to international mainstream success after forming the band Crowded House, which Neil later joined, and you can currently catch Neil Finn on tour as a member of Fleetwood Mac. Not too shabby for a couple of new wave dudes!) (Info verified by Wikipedia)
