Day 99 Luke 24:1 Luke 24:1 Now upon the first day of the week, very early in the morning, they came unto the sepulcher, bringing the spices which they had prepared, and certain others with them. 2 And they found the stone rolled away from the sepulcher. 3 And they entered in, and found not the body of the Lord Jesus. 4 And it came to pass, as they were much perplexed thereabout, behold, two men stood by them in shining garments: 5 And as they were afraid, and bowed down their faces to the earth, they said unto them, Why seek ye the living among the dead? 6 He is not here, but is risen: remember how he spoke unto you when he was yet in Galilee, 7 Saying, The Son of man must be delivered into the hands of sinful men, and be crucified, and the third day rise again. 8 And they remembered his words, 9 And returned from the sepulcher, and told all these things unto the eleven, and to all the rest. 10 It was Mary Magdalene, and Joanna, and Mary the mother of James, and other women that were with them, which told these things unto the apostles. 11 And their words seemed to them as idle tales, and they believed them not. 12 Then arose Peter, and ran unto the sepulcher; and stooping down, he beheld the linen clothes laid by themselves, and departed, wondering in himself at that which was come to pass. It’s called the Greatest Story Ever Told, why, because it’s true. Yet people still look at this story as though it’s a fairy tale. When the women told the disciples what they found when they went to the tomb, they doubted what the women told them because women weren’t given high regard in those days. Yet Peter and John went to the sepulcher. John 20:3 Peter therefore went forth, and that other disciple, and came to the sepulcher. 4 So they ran both together: and the other disciple did outrun Peter, and came first to the sepulcher. 5 And he stooping down, and looking in, saw the linen clothes lying; yet went he not in. 6 Then cometh Simon Peter following him, and went into the sepulcher, and saw the linen clothes lie, 7 And the napkin, that was about his head, not lying with the linen clothes, but wrapped together in a place by itself. 8 Then went in also that other disciple, which came first to the sepulcher, and he saw, and believed. 9 For as yet they knew not the scripture, that he must rise again from the dead. 10 Then the disciples went away again unto their own home. With the evidence before them, the angels’ message to the women, and the empty tomb, the disciples still doubted Jesus’ resurrection. What does it take for people to believe the truth of what you tell them? In some cases, it takes a trial and a jury and many witnesses to determine the truth. God told the Moses that at the mouth of two witnesses a matter would be determined. More than two witnesses were present at the tomb. They had the proof in front of their eyes, and still doubt prevailed over truth. Peter wondered what it meant. John accepted that Jesus body was gone, and they left the empty tomb with questions and doubt. As Christians, you know it was the greatest day in history. The angels claim that Jesus was not dead but risen is a statement that resounds in your hearts and puts a smile on your face. It marks the final step in the salvation process. Jesus said it was finished. He paid the price for sin on the cross. He shed his blood for your salvation, and then he proved he was God in the flesh when he rose from the dead, defeating sin, Satan, and death. No longer do you need to live in fear of Hell, but Hell lives in fear of you. Satan can do nothing to you unless you allow him to. Don’t give in to his temptations. Remind him of the cross and his defeat. Remind him that the napkin set aside by itself means Jesus is returning, and when he does, he will cast him into the Lake of Fire and Brimstone for eternity. He will not be able to tempt anyone ever again. Jesus’ resurrection is your victory over Satan. It’s time to live in victory and not defeat. Let’s pray: Father, thank you for sending your Son, Jesus, to die and rise again so I can live eternally with you. Help me remind Satan of his defeat when he tempts me, and remind him that Jesus is coming back to cast him into the Lake of Fire and Brimstone. Help me remember Satan has no power over me. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen. Copyright © 30 November 2018 by Valerie Routhieaux Image courtesy of Pixabay
