Not to say that I won't be pulling it out again at some point, but for now, it's time to put the old Girlfinder away. We are at #1: "Silence" by Delerium. Formed in Vancouver, Canada in 1987, Delerium started as an ambient, electronic side project for Bill Leeb and Rhys Fulber of industrial band Front Line Assembly. Delerium, however, proved so popular that the duo,who use (mostly) various female vocalists on their songs, is still going strong. But they are dudes (I've met them both. Very nice guys, ) and we aren't really here to talk about them. We are here to talk about Sarah McLachlan, who performed the vocals on Delerium's best known song, "Silence." You know Sarah McLachlan. Over 30 million records sold worldwide, has won two Grammy Awards, founded the Lilith Fair tour, and has been bestowed both an OC (Order of Canada) and OBC (Order of British Columbia) designation. And she funds the Sarah McLachlan School of Music, which provides musical opportunities for at risk, inner city kids in both Vancouver and Edmonton, and is very active in the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (that's her song, "Angel," that you hear in their commercials. ) The 1997 album, Karma, was Delerium's ninth, and what a great record it is! It was "Silence," however, that is that album's standout. While it has been remixed about a gazillion times, the original version is widely considered one of the greatest trance songs of all-time. The single was an international success, charting in a total of 13 countries, hitting the Top 10 in eight of those. And while the great Kristy Thirsk handles quite a bit of Delerium's vocal work (and she is most awesome!) it was Sarah McLachlan's performance on "Silence" that set the bar high for other Delerium vocalists. Very, very high. (Info verified by Wikipedia)

If you have heard anything by them, odds are it would have been this one.
