Oil prices are dropping sharply again. What do you think are the reasons? I think the drop comes amid ongoing fears of oversupply, particularly in the US. What do you think will be financial implications of same? Is it good or bad for economy?

Wow really? For me it is really good news for consumers as well as industries using oil.

Hard to say. It seemed that high oil prices weighed on markets a few years ago. Then it seemed to go the other way, wit the two rising and falling together. I'm not an economist, so I'll just enjoy the slightly lower gas prices.

@TheHorse Here in India which is an oil importing nation it will have positive impact on the economy. But the economy of oil exporting countries like OPEC countries and Russia will be hard hit. And finally they will be forced to make production cut to offset the falling prices. But that will lead to job cuts in oil and gas industry. And that will advesely effect me since I work in an industry which provides logistical and technical support to oil producing Industry.

@amirev777 Ah, got it. I thought some Middle Eastern Countries, like maybe Saudi Arabia, cut production a few weeks back to try to drive prices up.

@TheHorse No it was actually due to overproduction by US. It has become the highest oil producing nation. You must be very proud

This is a great news! At least the cost will be less. However, I don't think it is the same here. The oil price is often rising up.

@youless Yes it all depends upon which country you are residing in and type of government and the politicians running it.

The dropping oil prices are good for me. Less to pay for the oil.

If the interest rate goes up, it is good for the saver but not for the borrower. Likewise, if the oil price falls, it is good for the consumer but not for exporters. However, it is better we wean ourselves away from oil as most countries depend on the few - siva
