One of the most poignant songs ever made all the more so by singer-songwriter Jim Croce’s untimely September 1973 death in a plane crash.
“If I could save time in a bottle
The first thing I would like to do is to save every day
Till eternity passes away
Just to spend them with you”
Croce was inspired to compose the song by his wife’s pregnancy and “Time in a Bottle” is a reflection upon mortality and wishing to have more time. From the “You Don’t Mess Around with Jim” album, the song was rushed into release following his death and shot to #1. “Time in a Bottle” has been frequently covered including by Glen Campbell. Jerry Reed, the Ventures, Lena Horne and Kenneth “Babyface” Edmonds.
James Joseph "Jim" Croce (January 10, 1943 -- September 20, 1973) was an American singer-songwriter.
