The oak tree is one of natures mighty and long lived trees on planet earth.
The song I like best that describes the romantic illusion surrounded by the yellow ribbon round that old oak tree is a good thing to listen to for this post.
Tony Orlando and Dawn do it best and here is a live performance from the days of old that are as good today as they were long ago.
Take a look at this YouTube of the song and take a step back in time.

that song played a large part in the Philippine People's Power Revolution that overthrew a 20 year dictatorship.

From the tiny acorn arises the mighty oak.

Yep. Just like the mustard seed, starts off tiny and grows very large.

I always liked this song. I remember it became something of an anthem for, first, the Iran Hostage Crisis, and then for people waiting for soldiers to return from Gulf War 1. I always found that interesting given the song was originally about a prisoner returning home after having done his time in the penitentiary.
The origin, though, of the yellow ribbon, dates back to cavalry days when troopers would leave their yellow neckerchiefs with their sweethearts before riding off to do battle.
