I live in Atlantic Canada in the Atlantic Standard Time Zone. (AST) and right now it is 7:45 am on Monday Dec 31. My day is just beginning, yet there are people on the other side of the world who have/are already ringing in the New Year with Fireworks displays. I think it is amazing how the time zones work. There are 38 time zones around the world and it takes about 26 hours for the New Year to come full circle.
Those who live on Christmas Island are among the first to bring it in. Then parts of New Zealand, then parts of Australia...and so on around the globe.
I know that there are some mylotters already celebrating and others are now, at this moment counting the moments until midnight in their part of the world. It is a yearly habit at this time for me to follow the celebrations around the world. I do it mostly online until it reaches my part of the world then I follow it across my own country/continent. There are six time zones across Canada and I follow the celebrations one hour at a time until 4:00 am with the final countdown in Vancouver or Victoria BC.
To all mylotters across the globe HAPPY NEW YEAR!! Make it count.

I do, to the best of my knowledge. The international Date Line is not a straight line as the others are. It was rezoned in places in the Pacific to accomodate the trade business on remote Pacific islands with Austrailia and New Zealand. It adds two extra hours....somehow. Here is more info.
