Actually, the expression "hair of dog" is a shortened version of "hair of the dog that bit you". Hair of dog method of curing hangover involves drinking more alcohol to get relief from the symptoms associated with hangover, which you get next day, after you have had excess of alcohol the previous night. I usually drink a glass of beer to combat hangover. This was known to me much befre I came across this expression.
