Happy Saturday all! It is 641pm here, just woke up and am doing a little bit of easy walking on the treadmill before making my lunch/dinner and heading to work. After tonight I will have TWO more of these nasty 10pm to 8am shifts before moving on to my new shift. Am excited but there are some things I will miss of course so it feels a little bitter sweet. Anyway - Ifinished this book, Hunger by Roxane Gay a day or so ago. She has written ofher books and is a known feminist. This book, or should I say memoir, is all about her dealing with her body. (She is over 500 pounds at her largest). It is not a weight loss memoir however. She goes back in time to her childhood where an act of sexual violence traumatizes her and she admit she turns to food. She also talks about being a large black lady living in a “small white lady’s world”. And describes some of these challenges she faces on a daily if not hourly basis. She teeters back And forth from her pro-feminism, body acceptance stance to the normal body insecurities and knowing she needs to lose weight. All the while trying to come to terms with being a victim of sexual violence. This memoir was REALLY great. I am extremely cheap but bought this one new at the book store but I don’t regret a penny of it. Some of the things she talks about spoke directly to me! Have you heard of this author? Or read anything good lately? If you have finished your first book of 2019, what was it?

I don't really read books of that nature. I need my books to be fiction based. I am still reading "The Broken Girls" a book I picked up a few months ago but haven't gotten around to reading. I'm going to try to finish it sooner rather than later. I want to get started on new reading goals for this year.

Oh I am almost totally the opposite! I love memoirs of all sorts. I like reading about real people and experiences. But also fiction. This one was really good though. What kind of goals do you make for yourself?

@maezee I guess my dislike of memoirs of the such stem from an almost vivid memory of middle school book reports. That library was more like a fortress than it was a castle. Mostly my goals are just to read more. I also try to expand my horizons a bit (though never into memoirs). There are few political books that have come out as a result of this presidency. I'd like to pick them up.

That is awesome. I need to start writing but keep putting it off and losing motivation. Do you have trouble finding time to write?

I am reading my second book of the year. The first was an Inspector Alvarez mystery.
