Psyllium husk contains insoluble fibre, which dissolves in water and forms a gel-like substance in our gastro-intestinal tract. when it is taken along with yoghurt, the useful lactobacillus bacteria in our gut ferments it, and in the process slows down and in some cases completely prevents the absorption of fat and cholesterol in our gut, thus reducing our blood cholesterol levels. It also helps in stabilising our blood glucose levels and keeps our gut healthy. Those who are fond of meat and fatty food, should include plain, low fat yoghurt and plenty of dietary fibre in their daily menu.
