My niece has been a real trouble maker all year and in my sister-in-law family do do the old way of given gifts. if you are bad you get cole. Well I don't want to go against them but I fell a little bad about not getting her anything. I will not fell right when the family comes over and I give every something but her. I think we should give her something small. just that so she can have something to open. What do you think.

Gifts are given from the heart. Forget about the coal. Give something that will make her think.

My plan was to start a hope chest for her. She is 17 will be 18 in july So I thought about getting her stuff like dishes an things like that maybe I could still get her stuff like that and maybe it will have a double meaning.

the hole coal thing is for SANTA to put in the stocking not any one else. every one that would normally give her some thing should. santa gives coal not aunt and uncles. beidsesi think its crazy that your in laws aren't going to give her any thing but coal.

That's a tough one! I think I have to agree with you though and go with get her something small that's not too expensive so at least she has something to look forward too rather than a lump of coal. I can honestly say I didn't think anyone actually gave a lump of coal to their kids if there'd been bad though.
