Favorite "Town" Songs #8 - "This Town"

Life's a kick in this town! I am counting down my favorite songs with "Town," "City," "State," and "Country" in the title, and this is the "Town" portion of today's discussion. We are at #7: "This Town" by the Go-Go's. Take a moment to consider just what a strong new wave album the 1981 debut from the Go-Go's, Beauty and the Beat, actually was. Not only did it reach #1 on the Billboard 200 album chart, but to this day, 38 years later, the Go-Go's are the first and only all-female band that both wrote their own songs AND played their own instruments to achieve that distinction. The Bangles, The Runaways, The Donnas, L7, great bands all, but none of them managed what the mighty Go-Go's achieved! The success of Beauty and the Beat was driven largely by the hit singles "Our Lips are Sealed" and "We Got the Beat," but that entire record was full of great, catchy tunes, such as "This Town." "This Town" wasn't a hit. It wasn't even released as a single. But, as is the case with the entire album, it's a fun listen, new wave with strong pop sensibilities. I've seen the Go-Go's twice, and had a blast both times. Such a fun band. Such a fun album. Such a fun song! (Info verified by Wikipedia)
