Dumpster Diving

I recently came across a vlog on YouTube called StevenSteph Resale Killers. They make a living dumpster diving. They find brand new in box items in the dumpsters behind stores. I originally thought they sold the stuff on ebay but it seems they do flea markets and pretty much sell each item for $1 or $2 or even give some things to children. They donate decent used clothing and shoes they find. The first video I watched was on gift cards. They have hundreds of gift cards they found in dumpsters. You can go to the websites and find out exactly how much money is left on the cards. Even if it's one penny, these cards add up. Sure, some have nothing on them but some can have a little or a lot still on them. They found an Apple card that had $50 on it! They said that when people use a gift card, the cashier asks if they want the card back and sometimes they give them back the wrong card and throw away the one that still has money on it. Of course I don't know if they really have any use for some of the cards, like baby clothing stores. But they may know someone who does. It's a lot more work than is shown in the videos but it is inspiring.

Wow... I can't even imagine someone tossing gift cards. Now, I have found some in my wallet that I have forgotten about, but I never thought of tossing them.

@Hate2Iron De-cluttering feels great if only we could make some money off it.

@patgalca I should do that... I think that I will do a bit of decluttering just to see what I have in there. Might be more than one!!

Yup, it's amazing what people will throw out. The homeless in Vancouver used to get a lot of food that way until the stores put in those sealed units.

One of their videos is titled "Why do big corporate stores throw away so much?" I watched a video where they found boxes of brand new shoes, and a brand new chair still in the box. It is such a waste and really should be criminal to throw out perfectly good product.

I have found perfectly good books and DVDs people have tossed.
