Favorite "State" Songs #6 - "United States"

AWAHOOOO! That's really all that needs to be said! I am counting down my favorite songs with "Town," "City," "State," and "Country" in the title. This is today's "State" edition, and we are at #6: "United States" by Smashing Pumpkins.
Led by vocalist/guitarist/songwriter Billy Corgan, Smashing Pumpkins are an alternative rock band formed in Chicago in 1988. Two-time Grammy Award winners, the group has enjoyed mainstream success through albums such as Siamese Dream, and Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness, and hit singles like "1979."
And if all you know of the Pumpkins is that fun radio hit, prepare to have your mind blown! From their 2007 album, Zeitgeist, "United States" was not released as a single. This ain't the 1970's. Epic, ten-minute rock songs are no longer considered "hit song" material, and rarely receive radio play (if the DJ needs to use the bathroom, they've already got "Stairway to Heaven" and "Do You Feel Like We Do" at the ready,) BUT DAMN IS THING HOT!!!!!
Zeitgeist was recorded entirely by Corgan and drummer Jimmy Chamberlin, with Chamberlin laying down the drums for this monster in one live take.
Seriously, "United States" is heavy as @#$&! Sabbath this up a bit and it would be right at home on Master of Reality. It's that bloody good!
Seriously.
Seriously.
Seriously!

I've got this album, but it's definitely not my favorite of the Smashing Pumpkins discography. The only tracks I really like on there are this track and "Tarantula".

The band is another outrageous R&R HOF snub.

You would think that they would at least put them up for a vote.

Um...but how do you really feel? Not my style of music, but I understand what you mean. I could hear Ozzy mumbling this song.

@Ronrybs - Wouldn't have been as classic as the Ramones playing "Happy Birthday" to Mr. Burns anyway!

They do a lot of different styles, sometimes in the same song. This is pretty heavy for them.
