Favorite "Country" Songs #5 - "The Big Country"

Legend on Friday, legend today. I am counting down my favorite songs with "Town," "City," "State," and "Country" in the title, and we have arrived at the "Country" edition. We are at #5: "The Big Country" by Talking Heads. They are new wave legends, and they are in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Largely due to the image of vocalist David Byrne, Talking Heads were considered nerdy and quirky, but they were a great band, capable of effortlessly pulling of funk, art rock, world music, new wave, you name it. Ask @FourWalls if you really want to know about the group. I guarantee that she will not have to look up the answers to your questions! "The Big Country" is the final track from the band's classic 1978 album, More Songs About Buildings and Food, which reached #29 on the Billboard Pop Albums chart, and #21 in the UK, driven largely by the hit single cover of Al Green's "Take Me to the River." And "The Big Country" sounds nothing like that one at all. This thing has a definite country twinge, with some great slide guitar (and I do love me some slide guitar!) It is a perfect ending for a great album! Unexpected, but perfect! (Info verified by Wikipedia)

I have no idea who this band is. This may come as no surprise to you or anyone else, but we matched on this one.

@JohnRoberts - I wonder if anyone ever did walk in after an absence, wanting to hear some country and bluegrass, and found the Ramones on stage. "What the hell is this crap?"

He is. Just such a great band. Tina Weymouth's bass lines were fantastic.
