Do You Read One-by-One The Price of your Items In your Sales Tape/Receipt?

I think this is not of so much a burden when you only have few purchases in the list but if you bought several items just like the groceries, you may not have time to read it all. Last December 30, just like other people who were busy shopping for their preparation in welcoming the New Year, we bought our ingredients also a day ahead. Grocery stores were packed with customers as if they were panic buying. Actually this is not my concern but with one of my ingredients that I just found lately. I bought mayonnaise for my Tuna & Penne pasta salad. I only needed 1liter of the said ingredient but there’s no quantity like that so I just picked 2 tetra packs of 470ml and 1 of 220ml which was the smallest I found that time. When I’m at home, I glanced at the difference of their price and the sales tape reads 92 and 88 respectively. I was surprised to see the difference at a very small amount. Since I was tired that evening, I never bother myself to read the whole sales tape and the prices of each item, not anymore. I somehow regretted a little the small difference of the amount and I could have bought all the same quantity. Anyway, I have already forgotten that thing but I could not help to remember when I bought Mayo lately for my salad. Same ingredients, same quantity but I bought the items this time at another grocery store. The good thing when you pick your item at their designated shelves is, it has corresponding amount labeled at the bottom of the shelf. The said quantity of Mayo valued at 89 and 44 each respectively. See! The difference of the price is half knowing the fact that the content of small pack is just nearly half of the 470ml pack. I have doubts that the cashier mistakenly (or intentionally) entered it in double that’s why it became 88. I looked for my receipt to support my suspicion but to no avail. Photo is a serving of the salad after.

It is a good idea to check. Maybe I should start doing it seriously

I just rarely do this. Only when I want to compare the price of an item but I think it make sense. It's not impossible that cashier won't make mistakes. I have another experience when a can of an Australian corned beef fell to my cart. Yes, I noticed there's some falling in the floor because I accidentally touch its pile when I grab a can of liver spread. At the counter, when the cashier swiped my purchases, photo of the can appeared in the monitor and I wonder why there's a can of corned beef when I can't remember that I'm included it to my purchase. It was already entered and the amount was just small so I never protested to have it voided.

That's my problem when items have no label of price in it or in the shelf because I would end up paying more than my estimate especially if the item is not the usual items that I bought or not familiar yet with.

Since I hate it when I get home and there was a mistake. I quickly check the bill before I leave the store and have saved a few dollars because mistakes were made.

@ZedSmart Yes, I do it right away while I am still in the store so I never had any problem. If I do it when I get home than I might not want to go back right away except once when there was a mistake of $5.

That's great. With that, you were able to let them know the mistake.

It is wise to check the prices on our receipts, but I usually don’t due to lack of time or laziness.

Maybe you can go back to the supermarket and ask the cashier but i doubt if they will accept it since you brought them home already.

We can really report the mistake made by them and have it corrected provided that we have the receipt with us as proof. If we don't, that's impossible because we cannot back up our claim with evidence.

Maybe, maybe not. Depending but I think it make sense especially if you have large purchases. They could really make that mistake occasionally. It could be a small amount but depends on how it matter most.

Of course I checked on the prices on how one store differs from another and at the same time checking if the items on receipts are inside the bag.
