Should divorce be banned in a country

I just interacted on a thread where a poster says divorce isn't allowed in their country and I wonder what those that one partner has turned to a beast in terms of his or her action would do. I have witnessed some men beat their wives to a pulp and even trample upon them. For me I think the way out of such situations is leaving the marriage but in a place where divorce isn't allowed, then it will spell doom for the helpless one. What do you think ?

Divorce should be legal everywhere, or if not leg, cases where a woman can prove she's being beat, they should allow it. Unfortunately, there are still nations in the world that turn the other cheek against abuse towards women.

This is really sad, why would authorities behave that way.

@Berrygal It's just the way of things, I guess. It doesn't make it right, of course, but I believe this happens in countries that are not democracy's.

I don't think so. What about abusive behavior of one of the partners? Why should the good one suffer? I am not saying having divorce is a good thing. People should try their level best to make their marriage work but if something violent is happening, it should be ended..
