A few years back, I joined some friends who rode their bikes mostly mountain bikes. The first experience taught me to do that slowly and in progression.

Good for you! I'm in my 30's and I don't know how to ride a bike. I've tried so many times before but no such luck.

That's a nice story. Keep pedaling and stay safe out there.

I was in my teens when I learned to pedal away in an old-fashioned bike that had 29 inch wheels and a pedal brake. A friend just pushed me as hard as he could and told me to pedal fast while controlling the handle bars steadily. Then in my older years, I used to take my son to school on a BMX, until I gave that up. In my mid-fifties, I rediscovered the joy of riding while watching some friends and I decided to buy myself a mountain bike.

Oh it is definitely fun. Slow uphill rides with friends can really invigorate the lungs, tone my muscles, and distract me from the humdrum of computer games and endless facebook. We get to explore challenging uphill rides within at least 30 kilometers away from home while enjoying the camaraderie and coffee. Sometimes we join friends from nearby towns, join or watch races, fun rides, and the most awaited annual event --- Tour of the Fireflies.

You should definitely make a habit out of biking around town for starters. The decide whether you can actually sustain it.
