Is Trump being played by his own intelligence community?

It's frustrating to us ordinary folk how slow the Mueller investigation seems to move, and how little data we can see as to it's results. How could it be that leaders as corrupt as Trump, McConnell, and Grahame, are allowed to go on instituting policies that are so damaging to the country? Based on what little I've been taught about the spy game, often when a spy, or traitor is discovered, the intelligence powers that be won't immediately arrest the culprits will simply be allowed to go on functioning as normal while other spys monitor their activity and gather their own intelligence and what other information can be gained from the activity. In such situations, we can feel safe in the knowledge that the perpe-traitor is being fed information and the government will be in a position to pounce and arrest the culprit if/when the situation warrants it. The FBI did this when it discovered the clandestine Soviet spys of Dept S. They followed one couple for at least ten years as far as recall. Could the U.S. afford to have traitors as high ranking as Trump, McConnell and Graham operating against us even under such extreme scrutiny?

I would like to get rid of Trump as much as you would, but I believe other similar investigations of presidents have gone on longer than this one has. And it's my understanding that treason has a narrow focus. Basically we have to be at war before someone can be charged with treason. As for McConnell and Graham, the only way to get rid of them is vote them out.

Thanks for a thoughtful response with good facts, it is enlightening. I appreciate that as investigations go, this hasn't been that long. But the stakes of this investigation are so extra high. It took them decades to start, but it seems like the Southern District of New York's investigation is going faster than Mueller's. Meanwhile, every week, Trump puts us at more and more risk. His little Sunday interview may have destroyed our chance to monitor Iran from our base in Iraq. Before that, he gave Putin what he wanted by withdrawing from our anti-proliferation treaty with Moscow. Another pro-Russia gift that could have devastating consequences for the entire planet. You're correct that other investigations take time, but there have been no investigations similar to these in our history. I'm sure you're correct on the treason issue too, but we haven't declared a war since 1941. Anybody would believe that Korea, The Cold War, Vietnam, Iraq 1, Iraq 2, Afghanistan, And numerous other "micro-battles" fit the definition of war, but it could be legally argued that they are not, because Congress never declared war as per the Constitutions mandate. Perhaps I'm alarmist, but I think when another nation is able to manipulate an election, then dictate policy to the leader they chose for the country that was meddled with, is an act of war. I believe that the penalty for any U.S. citizen for assisting a hostile foreign power should be consequentially ten-amount to treason. What ever it's called.

Trump and his associates will be found out and brought to justice eventually. It's just a pity that the USA has to suffer in the meantime

I believe it may be a very long time before we really know the extent to which Trump and many of his allies are"Kompromat" or intentionally engaging in conspiracy with Russia. I believe our intelligence authorities are monitoring the espionage activities and are not willing to expose the extent of their knowledge about it. An attempt to glean more intelligence, and insert false intelligence when able. I'm willing to bet that it will be the SDNY prosecutors who finally hold Trump accountable publicly for financial and racketering crimes.
