PURITANS

There seem to me to always be PURITANS around, who believe that they know better than others how things ought to be, and set out to correct the situation, whatever it may be. Generally, these people have failed, as far as I can see.
Martin Luther, [1519] who, as far as I can see, was generally right in his effort to purify his church, generally failed, but a church was founded in his name which attempted to carry our his 'purifications'.
Into the US, a group of Puritans came from England [1620], again with a desire to change their particular church, but generally failed. Again, as with Luther, they essentially founded another church, while the original one stayed pretty much as it was.
Conclusion: You may try to 'purify' the body of which you are a part, but by former models, you will fail, even though you may accomplish some change.

Religion and religious institutions tend to resist change because of their monolithic nature. They demand conformity of their followers to their rigid doctrines. It is often because of the abuses and excesses of church leaders that are the cause of disenchantment from within the members.
