According to what I have heard for years, the Mayans had a game seemingly akin to basketball, but with a ball closer to the size of a baseball. The 'goal' was a hole in a rock some distance from the round with a quite small center. It must have been quite difficult to score in this game. Surely, the most interesting aspect about this game, as I have heard it, was that is that the losing team in these games was death. This is hard for me to believe, but it has been reported as true by exerts in the Mayan culture, including our guide at the site.
