This was the title of a Barbara Streisand movie and song. Why is it that we long so deeply for the past.

Because Johnny Boy we are nostalgic by nature - if we really look back on our lives sure there were wonderful moments but we tend to have selective memories. Being a child for example is blissful, few responsibilities and all but if we would take the time to appreciate what we have the present, true happiness is at our reach.

because who we are now are mostly due to our past. the past could be bad or good, but it's been a part of our lives, it's who we were back then... and through it, we are who we are now.
