.... that my daughter could be a little too unnerving.
All she wanted was to give her office mates who have become dearest gang mates, both at work and at play, lessons on Humanities 101. It was an advocacy of a sort, to make her new friends cultured.
The teaching spanned from Movies to the Opera, Music to Art, Food to Books Finally, one afternoon, after the trivia quizzes on Marvel and Star Wars, one office mate asked to shift topics.
Okay, my daughter said, now we work on Jane Austen quotable quotes.
Silence ensued. And my daughter found her self all alone.

Humanities" 101, I didn't know there's a subject about that. Maybe we didn't have that.

@eileenleyva I think there was subject of humanities in sociology, i don't know, it was more than decades ago. I can't believe it's been decades since my graduation.

That seems likely.
My daughter compelled one engineer to sit and watch Les Miserables. When it came to Marius and Eponine's duet, the engineer asked: Isn't it she's dying? Why is she still singing?
You are right, they are not ready for culture yet.

Yeah.
Actually, my daughter thought Austen would be a walk in the park, compared to Hugo and Homer. Of course she was wrong, the guys were never for the classics.

She should have suggested watching the "Pride and Prejudice" movie instead. Personally I prefer Emily Bronte's "Wuthering heights" which also revolve around the English gentry of the 18th century.

Wuthering Heights scared me.
I don't think I could fall in love with the story. But Pride and Prejudice, that's a favorite romance novel.
Cafe is the in thing for professionals, I think, and that band thing.

Mostly, my daughter's mates are engineers and planners. Jane Austen was never heard of in their lives.
