I made up some plantain-black bean tacos for my sister and brother in law yesterday and we thought it would be a good idea to go through HBO Go and see if there were any decent movies to watch. (They have quite a few good ones on there)! We stumbled across Fargo and since none f us had ever seen it... why not!
Fargo (from 1996, I believe?) is a dramedy based around this Minnesotan guy who finds himself in deep debt and in desperation pays to get his wife kidnapped so as to receive part of the ransom from her rich but stingy father. The comedy part of it is essentially making fun of Minnesotans and North Dakotans with their outrageous Midwest accents “dontcha know” and crazy plot lines.
A lot of this was filmed in Minnesota, and only a brief part of it was in North Dakota, so i wonder why Fargo was chosen as the name. But anyhow - pretty violent movie but funny in a very exaggerated way.
While many of the characters mimick some very common midwestern tics (yes some of us do say SUPPER and we definitely say POP instead of soda), for the record, the accents are quite exaggerated. Ha!
I thought this was a good movie and worth seeing. Have you seen this?

Yes. The Coen brothers who made the movie are from Minneapolis.

I saw this when I lived in Minnesota - people told me I just had to watch it as they all thought it was funny - and it was! But if I had watched it before living there I would just have thought it was stupid. Definitely one for 'insiders' I think!
