Bible-based Christian is a misnomer.

For the purpose of clarification, let it be known that the Bible was not written by our Lord Jesus Christ. First, the only time our Lord wrote in His 33 years in history was when he wrote on the sand to defend a woman about to be stoned. Second, our Lord is not an author, but rather, He is the authority over all of Christianity. Third, Christianity came to be after our Lord;s resurrection, when the apostles and disciples and all the believers were being referred to as Christians. Most blatantly was the reference to Stephen as the first Christian martyr, The Bible came out as a necessity when decades after the Ministry of our Lord, four writers deemed it wise to put the story on record. Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John wrote the accounts of the story of our Lord to the best of their recollection, and with admittance that not everything was written down. Bible-based Christians, nope, there is no such thing. The Church came before the Bible was compiled. The stories of the Christians were presupposed in that Good Book of Salvation. And my I remind everyone who uses the Bible to justify their questions as an attack to the Catholic Church, the command to us was to bring the Good News, or the Story of our Lord,. not to destroy the Church He built.

Great post. I think maybe when people say they're Bible-based Christians, they mean they believe what the Bible teaches. But I don't think you can be an authentic Christian if you don't believe the Bible. However, the Bible has never taught us to hate other religions, but as you said, we're to carry the Gospel to all nations.

Thank you, Vicki. The Bible is the Story of Salvation fulfilled in the Gospel of Jesus. Our Lord Jesus was crucified because He spoke the Truth that He is the Messiah, which infuriated the Pharisees Right then and there, a conflict was born. It's the people's inability to see the truth, and the obstinacy to adhere to the truth. Christians know very well that our Lord called Himself the Good Shepherd, and He built just one Church, the cornerstone of which was Cephas, or Simon, who was later called Peter. Yet, after the harrowing beginning of the Church, those "zealots" (as our friend in the other response call them), insinuate that the congregations they built are the true churches. Whatever happened to our Lord's One Shepherd, One Flock? Our life's goal is to bring Christ to the world, not tear Christians apart Religion is a way of life. As Christians, we are taught to love our fellow man whatever creed he belongs to. I only vomit the Iglesia Ni Cristo, established by a Filipino. That one is abominable.

@1creekgirl The INC carries Christ's name but does not believe our Lord is God. It's a user of a sect, for monetary gain. Vicki, mylot is not exactly the venue to explain the whole lot about the Catholic Church. I feel most inadequate and does not know where to begin. Your grandson, though, was called, and like St. Francis of Assisi, he felt our God calling. Perhaps, if you can ask him about the sacraments like Holy Communion. We, Catholics believe that our Holy Mass is the real reenactment of our Lord's Life and Passion. The Holy Communion is the Last Supper, thus, the Host we receive is true the Body of Christ, the bread, in the process of transubstantiation, becomes the Body of Christ. Thus, the Living Bread. If you have a long moment, kindly listen to Scott Hahn, just so you can keep in the same wavelength with your grandson.
Marcus and Scott answer open-line questions from the Journey Home audience. Scott gave his life to Christ in high school. He soon became a convinced Calvinis...

@eileenleyva I'll definitely listen when I get a chance. Our grandson has talked a lot about his new faith, he's even memorized several long somethings in Latin! He made a Rosary for his mother and one for me, it's beautiful.
