Ever been walking down the street enjoying a nice day when out of nowhere a dog starts barking and you quickly realize he's coming after you!! What do you do??!! Most people say RUN!!!! But a wiki expert, says stop and stare them down!! Tell them to Sit. Grab a stick and throw it!! Throw him a snack, a ball, or cookie or anything sweet you might have!! And if he goes for the bite grab a stick, your purse or bag and shove it at him he will bite that instead!! You may even have to use a little dog kung fu and kick him!!! You can even sing and dance little James Brown!! Heard that works!! How did You survive being chased down by a mean dog??!!

@JohnRoberts My neighbor was walking down the road with her doberman right when I was walking to my mailbox. That dog ran towards me and his nose hit the back of my right leg like he was going to bite me. She told him "No" and he stopped. She didn't apologize at all. I think it surprised her that he charged me. This happened on my property right at my mailbox. This happened a couple of months ago. I carry Mace when I walk through the neighborhood. I guess I should carry it when I walk to the mailbox on my own property. Honestly, I think my neighbor is kooky. She thinks her dog wont get violent and she has young grand kids that are around the dog, when she baby sits them.

I did not survive sadly. I've been bitten once maybe because I did not do the singing and dancing tactics. Now I know next time I'll do the Michael Jackson moves.

So far I have faced a number of dogs and have never been bitten. Stand your ground and hope the owner is near and calls the dog. As long as they are barking, they are not biting.

My heart was beating and was moving side to side talking too him saying crazy things like, "I don't have nothing" And what do U want? Like he understood!! He didn't come closer but kept barking!!! Until the owner this lady in her pajamas came out and called her in!! I had a few words for her like "Why don't you watch that da-ned dog of yours!!!

we tried to make friends with the cranky dogs in the neighborhood because they are really annoying. We gave them bones... I think this is more or less accurate.

@db20747 oh yeah, when one started barking my BF spoke to him and said "don't you remember we gave you bones?" and the dog stopped barking, and after we got over him, i laughed... wow you are a dog whisperer now. he understood you". now no more barking at all.

there is two types of street dogs! the first one is the savage one the one that attacks you unexpectedly! is this case you have nothing to do!!! the 2nd one is the one who will come to you running and barking, this type of dog youjust need to face him and he will run away!! the problem is maybe he will not run away!!! maybe he is a savage and he will bite you!!! aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa

That's the catch 22!!! Instinct, we usually freeze or run!! We won't know what we'll do until we're chased!!! In my case I picked up a stick and he backed down! The second time I ran in circles saying crazy things like "I aint got nothing" and what do U want? Like he could understand!!!

You are right. I also heard that you shouldn't run as the dog will keep chasing you. Others told me that it is better to bend down and pretend to pick up a stone or something like that. Or try to hold something in hand, then the dog will be afraid and go away. However, usually our first action is to run away

It happened to me recently. There were two dogs, one on each side of me. One grabbed the leg of my jeans and barely missed nipping me. They were both little, mean dogs and the owner had no control of them. One had a shock collar that he ignored. I just walked carefully away. One chased me halfway down the street.

@db20747 I felt a wave of fear at first but knew I had to stop that before I get mauled. So I replaced it with calm and trying to get away.

I live in a village where the dogs are at every turn and attack me regularly, but mostly I try to get them out, or if I'm on a bike, I'm trying to escape.

Instinct is to freeze!! By freezing the dog sees you're not a threat!! It's the little dogs that are nippier because you cant get them as easily!!! I had words for the owner like "Watch your dog!!" when that happened!!!

I was bitten by a dog when I was about ten. We taught our kids never to look a dog in the eye because the dog may perceive that as confrontational. We later heard our daughter tell a cousin, "Never look a dog in the right eye!"
