To or not to intervene....

One of my friends called me today and was upset because her mother-in-law told her to start family, she asked her to concieve and have a baby. Now I am wondering isn't this suppose to be a very personal thing. I mean this shouldn't be imposed, it's a very private decisions that two people involved should decide about. Sometimes I really wonder, how do people even talk about this to their daughter or daughter-in-laws.

It IS a personal thing. I know my sister has said her mother in law says these things to them - it is stressful. It's not just a decision to have a baby, but some couples have trouble conceiving - they are "trying" but it's just not happening. So when people say things like this, it can be insensitive, heartbreaking and hurtful too.

@Aansh13 The mother in law pressures her own son about it too. For the mother it may be a cultural thing that she "bugs" them about it - but still I think it is rude.

@much2say Truly speaking it's rude whether she is bugging her own son or daughter in law....

It's so common in our culture. We can't change mindset of our old generation nor we should hurt them with our gestures. Your friend should listen to her own self. Having a baby is a big decision and they should have a baby when they are ready for it. She can just try talking to them if it is worth or just ignore them politely without being rude or hurtful.

Its personal but parents always encourage married couples to do so
