I’ve already had the tornado warning coverage (for elsewhere, not here) pulled up, and it’s just barely lunch time! Gonna be a rough day in the mid-south. I hope everyone stays safe and the storms aren’t too severe. It’s not raining here yet, so I’ll enjoy another favorite from my list of songs with “dance” in the title. As promised, lots of favorites on the list....and gee, who’s this showing up today? #4: For a Dancer - Jackson Browne Ah, my favorite Jackson Browne album. This was back when he was an “introspective, sensitive singer/songwriter” like so many others from that era that I love (Taylor, Souther, Goodman, Prine, etc.), not writing political anthems or sappy songs (his biggest commercial hit was “Somebody’s Baby”). This song is one of those introspective songs. It was written about a friend of Browne’s who had died, and Browne reflected the friend’s attitude toward life in the lyrics: “I can’t help feeling stupid standing round, crying as they ease you down, ‘cause I know that you’d rather we were dancing.” A gem of a song from a gem of an album.
