Hot or Cold?

I have always been told in order to kill germs and make thing clean you are to wash in hot water mostly when it comes to washing dishes or house cleaning . But as far as laundry towels, sheets, blankets things that do not matter if they shrink can also be washed in hot water to get them very clean . Do not wash your clothes in that temperature of water because they’ll shrink, wash them in the closest, warm to make them clean yet not shrink! I usually wash all dishes in the dishwasher except for the greasy pans That way my darn nerve damaged and athritic hands, wrist and arms don’t start hurting and the dishes become clean and sterile. At times when my daughter and her fiancé handwash dishes and I go in the rack to get something to use or put away they are still dirty and sometimes greasy! Every time one of them has used the water, except for the clothes washer the handle has been left in the cold position! How do you wash dishes?

I scrub the dishes by hand with a brush and then place them in the dishwasher. I hand wash the pots and pans though. As for the laundry, I wash it all in the machine but dry the clothes in the sun. The sun is the greatest germ killer.

Years ago we would hang the clothes in the sun. However now, in most area’s it is against the law.

@dfollin I have a milk side and a meat side so when wash the dishes have to put the appropriate thing in the sink for the side it belongs on. I have one sink and there are those that have two but I cannot just put my dishes in the sink without something underneath. That is a part of keeping kosher.

Good for you! Some people don’t even think about cleaning the cutting boards really well. I have plastic cuting boards that I put in the dishwasher to sterilize.

I boil up really hot water and use a bacterial dishwashing liquid and wash them using Brillo pads for scrubbing.

In the summer, I use cold water but in the winter I use warm water with a bit of soap.

I wash towels and whites in hot water. Every thing else in cold water. Dishes are always washed in hot water but we keep the water heater set at a relatively low heat. My husband often does the dishes and if they're not always completely clean, I don't complain because I'm glad he's doing his share.

I don’t complain either but when I rewash them or stick them in the dishwasher my daughter gets mad.
