I'm enjoying the final hours of "slow" time. It's not that I'll move any quicker once Daylight Savings Time begins: at my age, I can't! Here's another one of those terrific places in Kentucky that I've visited, and I'm highlighting to try to convince John (and others) that he (and they) need to make this a destination! #4: Land Between the Lakes National Recreation Area Not too far off Interstate 24 in northwestern Kentucky is the northern end of the Land Between the Lakes (or the LBL). That puts you in close proximity to the dam, the canal between the two lakes (Lake Barkley and Kentucky Lake), and Paducah (which is where a museum dedicated to quilting is located). Between the lakes is the Land Between the Lakes (go figure!), a narrow peninsula that runs from the dam all the way to the Tennessee border. The road, called "The Trace," will lead you to coves, hiking trails, wildlife viewing, and all other great things outdoors. Of particular interest is the Elk and Bison Prairie ($5 per car admission), where you can view the wildlife. (Make sure you read their warnings regarding enclosed vehicles only before deciding whether to go there: motorcycles aren't allowed, because the bison will win a battle against a Harley every time.) There's also horseback riding available (fee for that). Nearby are marinas, kayak/canoe rentals, and all the other outdoorsy things. Also nearby are a number of state parks, including Kentucky Dam Village, Kenlake, and Lake Barkley. You can spend the day having an adventure on or near the water, or just enjoy the peace. Land Between the Lakes National Recreation Area Located between Kentucky Lake and Lake Barkley Northern entrance near Grand Rivers The US Forest Service site for the LBL:

Isn't the Trace the Natchez Trace?

No, that’s, oddly enough, the Natchez Trace Parkway.

I want to go to that quilting museum in Paducah (the park sounds awesome as well).
