I Might Have a Problem

In preparation for the first wave of houseguests, I have spent a little bit of time clearing out some space in my basement. My “guestroom” is also my sewing area and my daughter’s craft area. To make bed space it was necessary for me to remove my work table and all of the bits and pieces that have accumulated on its surface. To make my life simpler I purchased a plastic storage tub for all of the parts and pieces of my current project (I seem to go out and buy another plastic storage tub every time I’m expecting houseguests). Fabric, interfacing, pattern pieces and instructions are all neatly tucked into the tub and are stowed away for the time being. The scissors and rotary blades have been returned to my desk drawer. Thread has been organized and neatly tucked away. The remaining pile of items made me laugh. There is only one measuring tape in the photo, I know I have at least five more scatted throughout the house. My curved drafting rulers (I have several) are resting comfortably on the top of the bookshelf. In one of my desk drawers, I have an assortment of different sized squares. There are more traditional rulers in a drawer with the school supplies. And I have lost track of how many yardsticks have vanished into my husband’s workshop. The rulers in the photo are just a small sampling of the collection I have acquired in recent years. My collection is far from comprehensive--I don't own a single triangle template...or a hexagon. I’ve heard of sewists who tend to hoard fabric. I may be the only one who hoards measuring implements!

I need to get things a little better organized but overall it's not too bad.

Measuring tapes (at one time I think I had a dozen), rotary cutters, I'm embarrassed to admit I probably have close to a dozen...,scissors...please don't count them....fabric? Way to much to use in one lifetime....and yet I buy more. Do I need an intervention?

I knew I had a lot of scissors and an unhealthy amount of fabric (and yet I still want to acquire more). I knew I had more measuring tapes than was entirely necessary. I didn't realize I had a ruler problem until I gathered up all the rulers that were on my work table. Not all the rulers in my house, or even in my sewing area, just all the rulers on my work table. Oh my!

Well at least you know you will always have something to measure with!

I remember being like that back in college. I was an art/graphic design student - and I wished to have all the various art supplies I could get my hands on. One of the things I loved for graphic design was having various rulers, t-squares, French curves, triangles, templates . . . I may still even have the box of them at my parents' house. Now I am this way with hoarding craft supplies .

I have a LOT of fabric but that is an item that I use up over time. The rulers are a little more permanent.

You seem to be very organized and must be very precise in all you do. If any of your guests need to measure anything you are all set.

Having house guests is fun but preparing and the aftermath are a nightmare (lol) Probably you misplace your measuring stuff and go for more and that explains the collection (lol)

You've got a good supply. I have a lot of fabric that belonged to my mother. I want to do something with it, but don't know what at the moment.
