I picked this song not only because of its title, but because it does actually remind me of a certain pivotal summer in my life. That was the summer I left my home in Long Beach, California on a summer bus trip to Colorado, and ended up in the Bay Area in northern California. "In the Summertime" is the debut single by British rock band Mungo Jerry. It was written and composed by its lead singer, Ray Dorset. In 1970, it reached number one in charts around the world. It is one of the best-selling singles of all-time. Dorset has said that the song only took him ten minutes to write.
