Do they put it on themselves. Or can they really not help it.

NO I do not think fat people should be laughed at. I know it is not healthy too be over weight, but everyone is different.I think you should accept people for who they are and not what they look like. I think laughing at someone is rude.I know I would not want to be laughed at.

Actually sometimes who a person is reflects on what they look like. I've never met a person that was ugly and was a cool person truthfully. I don't know if its because there bitter or hate people in general. It's ok to have some excess poundage, but not to let it get outa hand.

My mother was 115 pounds till she had her thryoid removed due to cancer. After this happened she gained up to 279 in one year. She was skinny her whole life. So I think the thyroid underactive can play an important part in your health. ALso, during that time my mother ate less, because she did not feel well. Go figure.

I agree with you. Thyroids do play a big part in someones weight. My sister has thyroids that keeps her skinny, and my hubby has the one that makes it hard for him to lose.

I agree with you but laughter is more beneficial to the old and depress person.

They may be responsibile for their condition, but even so, no one deserves to be laughed at. That's just cruel.

First of all, I don't think anyone deserve to be laughed at, wether they're fat, skinny, ugly, weird looking and so on. Sometimes, bigger ppl don't know where to start to try and lose that extra weight. There are so many diets out there! Some other bigger ppl have thyroid gland problems or other diseases. Laughing at those ppl only makes it worse for them, makes them want to cave in and never come out, it's wrong and mean.

Would it be ok to laugh at thin people? or people with a disease? People who are overweight can't always help it, sometimes it is genetic, sometimes it is a physical problem, sometimes they have jobs which don't allow them enough time to increase their metabolism enough to burn the calories they eat. It isn't nice to laugh at anyone unless they are doing something that they intend for others to laugh at...although there are times when someone may accidentally say or do something that is actually funny. Laughing at someone simply because they are different is cruel.

I think that often they cannot help it, even if they can, it's not helping matters by having people tease them...if anything it's gonna hurt them even more and cause them to eat more.

Dude calm down im not here disrespecting. Just cause its a touchy subject for you you dont have to be enraged. Beside if you knew me you would know I'm a fighter and am striving to be a pro wrestler. I'm pretty sure I can take people that outweigh me no problem. So just back off and stop your trash talking. This is an intelligent conversation for once.

also I live knowhere near texas so to call me out like that isn't really worth it. Your an old man and I wouldn't take advantage of that in a fight, but what I would do against a bigger guy in a fight would be to use my speed and stay on me feet and work on your knees and put a bigger guy to the ground after that its over. Just some word of advice dont call out people in top shape and young.

I'm overweight (fat), but I'm the first one to poke fun at myself. My favorite shirt is "I'm in shape, round is a shape".

Take it from someone who struggles with her weight all the time. I have to put restraints on myself so I don't eat and I have unfortunately gained a lot of the weight back that I had lost due to emotions which is no excuse. But it's still hard. If anyone laughed at me because I am overweight (well not severely, yet anyway) I would punch that person in the face :) But anyway YES, of course we can all help it... but the desire is not always there to help it.

Simply put... no one deserves to be laughed at, whether or not they put themselves in the situation they are in. I have a special needs child. Does she deserve to be called "retarded"? No, she doesn't. Laughing at someone else's expense just because they are in the condition they are in, is NOT moral or ethical. Making fun of others is not something I want my children thinking it's okay to do.

I know exactly what you mean, I have a special needs child too and at the end of the day no-ones perfect. I can laugh at myself but not at others because it's not nice or clever and I grew up to know better. It's just another form of discrimination and quite unfair. If this was my discussion - not that I do this kind - I would give you best response.

Thanks Rainbow, I really appreciate that :-) Personally, I think starting this sort of topic opens up a can of worms best left alone, but then again, this is the internet. People can post whatever they want.

No one deserves to be laughed at for how they are, look, heritage, weight.... doesn't matter. Human life should be respected. Laughing at them is not a motivaton to improve themselves. for many it will do the exact opposite. How would you feel if you were the one being laughed at?

Do they deserved to be laughed at for the way they look? Do people missing an arm deserved to be laughed at? Do Asians deserved to be lauughed at? Do people wearing glasses deserve to be laughed at? No one deserves to be laughed at based on their appearance.

No, they don't. It is meant to laugh at other people and you shouldn't do it. You wouldn't like it if someone laughed at you

No, overweight people do not deserve to be laughed at. No one deserves to be laughed at for something so superficial as physical appearance. There are dozens of reasons for weight issues, from genetics to diseases to simple body chemistry. For some folks, it's impossible to lose weight. And some people are actually happy to be big. As long as they're healthy, more power to them. And yes, you can be large and healthy.
