Acadia National park in Maine is a wonderful place to visit. It is just about wholly beautiful with ocean scenes with a rugged coastline, a mountain, and varied, beautiful countryside with hills valleys, and meadows. It was from Acadia that some people were removed to Louisiana in the 1770's, where they were called 'Cajuns.',

Acadia is now called New Brunswick, the place where the Acadians who were transported to New Orleans came from not in Maine. The park however is lovely and we have actually visited both places.

I've walked around that lake and climbed the Bubbles at the end of the lake. It's a beautiful place to visit.

Sounds like a lovely place. I know it was difficult for those people to have to leave there.

I live in New Brunswick....home to many Acadians. Their story is heartbreaking. All they wanted was to live a peaceful life on their farms....they were sorely mistreated.

A famous poem, Evangeline, by Longfellow, tells of two people in love who were separated and were kept apart for decades, until they were very old. Terrible fate.

@JWMILLER the story of the Acadians is tragic. Families were ripped apart. They were considered a "threat" when all they wanted to do was live their lives on the farms that they had wrestled from the salt marshes of "Acadia"
The work these pioneers did in the 1600's is still evident to this day.
The "aboiteau" are a prime example....the engendering these farmers managed without modern equipment is a marvel.
