An Atheistic Bible Study Of The Gospels The Parable Of The Hidden Treasure

Matthew 13:44 offers another one line parable disregarded in the other three Gospels. This time Jesus compares the Kingdom of Heaven to buried treasure. A man buries the treasure in a field, but the field itself falls into someone else’s ownership, and the new field owner know nothing about the treasure. When the man who buried the treasure dies, having told his son and heir where the treasure is, the only way the son can get at the treasure is for him to buy the field first. The idea is that God has hidden the answers to how to get to Heaven in our World but only for those who follow Jesus and the Bible. They have to reclaim the World from the heathens, pagans, unbelievers, and followers of other faiths, in order to claim their reward. The parable is flawed every way from sundown. The new owner of the land might have found, moved or stolen the treasure. The instructions on the treasure location might be too vague. The rightful new owner of the land might not want to sell it. The treasure might not be all that valuable. The purchase of the land itself might be too expensive or not actually worthwhile. God hiding the way to Heaven from us makes salvation itself a cryptic geo-caching game, and many deserving souls might just find it too hard to play, missing out through no fault of their own.
