This might be considered "cheating," because the hit version of this hit song with "eyes" in the title isn't the hit version you're thinking of. That's okay. At least you know the song. And, if you listen and compare, you will probably understand why I like this better. Here's today's "eye" hit.
#3: Blue Eyes Crying in the Rain - Roy Acuff
Yeah, Roy Acuff. The King of Country Music. You know what I say about Willie: great songwriter, lousy singer.
Back in '45 Roy Acuff originally recorded this song, written by his business partner, Fred Rose. It was a big hit. Thirty years later, Willie warbled it and it became a massive hit, topping the country charts and making the pop top 40 in the era of disco.
I much, much prefer Acuff's version. In the words of the Roger Miller song, sorry Willie.

The words may be the same but they are two totally different songs as far as I'm concerned.

This song doesn't make my brown eyes turn blue (that won't make your list) as I never heard of this song before. I know the name and rep of Roy Acuff and that's about it and Willie's version stirs no recollection at that time as I was listening to hard rock station the mighty KMET.
