What, is that spring I see out there? It's not as cold, and the temperature is inching up. I think we've survived! (Now watch us get an April Fools snow storm....wouldn't be the first time.) Speaking of "seeing," take a look at another favorite obscure song, album cut, or tune from a band with a cult following with the word "eye" in the song title.
#7: Turn a Blind Eye - The Call
I say this every time I bring this band up, and this won't be any exception. The Call was one of the most criminally underrated bands of the 80s. Mixing a little punk, a little politics (especially on this album -- and song), and a lot of subtle religious overtones, The Call was just in the wrong place at the wrong time.
This song is a brilliant diatribe against the world going to sleep while all the problems bubble around us...and doing nothing, save for what the title says. From the needy ("to the desperate young....to the old and lonely") to the ever-increasing evil in politics ("the sellers of confusion...the masters of illusion...the lovers of power"), and even what we're doing to ourselves ("to our death-dealing vanity"), front man Michael Been laid it all out there.
It was true then. It's more true now.

So 80s new wave. Their best known song The Walls Came Down is a great one.

"The Walls Came Down" was the first song on the album, right before this one. Hard to catch your breath on this album!!

I liked them a lot, and they were one of the most powerful bands, in terms of stage presence, I've ever seen. Michael Been was just something else!
