Another asterisk. "Hit" may be an overstatement here. Maybe "the band's best-known song" is a more accurate assessment of today's "hit" song with "eyes" in the title. I just know it's one of those songs I can play six or seven times in a row. Here it is.
#4: Starry Eyes - The Records
During the disco backlash power pop became popular for a few weeks. That gave us the #1 song of 1979 ("My Sharona" by the Knack) and a lot of other fabulous songs and artists.
The Records didn't hang around long enough (three albums from 1979 to 1982, then no more until 1988, when the music world had seen half a dozen changes in what was popular) to become major players, but they were, and still are, fondly remembered. Lead singer/songwriter John Wick's death last October brought a slew of tributes from people who remember this song well.
That includes me. What a terrific tune about the record business (written about their manager who had deserted them ["while you were lost in France we were stranded in the British Isles"])! It also has a great kiss-off pun at the end: "the writ has hit the fan."
RIP, John Wicks. Thanks for this song, and for everything else.

I remember this one as it had a great beat! It's hard to stay still when this is playing.
