Trifle actually means something of small value and so I sometimes wonder why this goodness has got that name.
If you have some left over cake just crush it place it in a glass bowl and garnish it with whipped cream. Some fruits such as strawberries, grapes will go well with this mixture
Eat it chilled.

The ones I've made had cake, pudding/custard, and strawberries and blueberries - with whipped cream on top (and layered in a big trifle bowl). Ah, but smaller ones like in your photo could be made too - why didn't I think of that!

Oh
. But I guess if one only has a little bit of fruit and cake, then a small portion one can be made

Trifle is indeed layered What you see in the photo is that which is scooped out from the bowl ready to serve

You must have made it at home. Many do it when there is left over cake around.

I often do make it at home. Learnt it from my daughter. But I was not sure that this dish actually has a name.
We thought it is our creativity.

Whipped cream and sometimes with a touch of sugar is kind of a dressing.
