1962 was another great year for music. The Four Seasons band a favorite of mine was on the charts with “Sherry”, there was Bobby Darin, Bobby Vee, and Del Shannon. The Drifters had “Up On the Roof” and the awesome “A Town Without Pity” by Gene Pitney. Just to mention some and there was a lot more to like.
I chose to highlight “I Can’t Stop Loving You” by Ray Charles because the song just tugs at my heartstrings and I love the music and the way he sings this song. This popular song was written and composed by country singer, songwriter, and musician Don Gibson and was first recorded in 1957. In 1962 Ray Charles recorded it and included in his album Modern Sounds in Country and Western Music. His version made it to number one on the Billboard Hot 100 and stayed there for five weeks as well as shooting to number one on the U.S. R&B and Adult Contemporary charts.
In the recording when Charles says “sing it, children,” they are The Randy Van Horne Singers. The song is on Rolling Stone’s list at number 49 of the 500 Greatest Songs of All Time.
Do you like this song? What were your favorites in 1962?

I love all that old music. I think I must have been alive, but another life, past life.

Sherry was a song I just couldn't get away from, but I still like it.
I love Ray Charles, and I remember this one well. My mom was a fan, and she played his records all the time. My brother and I used to get a kick out of "Hit the Road Jack."

I was in junior high when this music was popular; and I remember it all. I love Gene Pitney and some of Bobby Darin's songs.
