A night at the opera.

I have to thank my daughters for twisting my arm on this, for I had a lovely date with the Phantom, listening to the music of the night at the opera. It had been ages since I was at the theater, and drama is the performing literary genre I enjoy most. The Phantom of the Opera, the Times, UK, said, is God's gift to musical theater, thus I allowed my self to be swayed to high end's Solaire, the country's premier stage for the drama. My daughters scolded me a little for coming in plain, no make up at all, not even baby powder, because the theater is an event for them. True enough, even if there was no red carpet, the super elegant lobby was turned into a fashion show venue. The cameras clicked endlessly, and I was the plain Jane who stood beside the poster no one else want to be photographed with. This was the scene where the Phantom professed his love, and the most tender moment in a story filled with fear and darkness. Glad I allowed my arm to be twisted. It was a refreshing and rejuvenating experience.

Yes, the Phantom of the Opera is to cry for. We were blessed the production chose a month-long Manila performance. Tickets were all sold out even before the cast came to town. I think Cats is coming next. I am hoping for Les Miserables, though. It's my favorite novel and my favorite musical. Glad you love the theater, too.

@DesirousDreamer Yup, Hamilton has reached our shores that one artist of a classmate traveled to New York, stayed with another classmate in New Jersey, just to watch Hamilton in Broadway. Hamilton is to wait for. As with Dear Evan Hasen.

@eileenleyva It has been my mom's dream to see Cats performed live. I have many other musicals I would love to see that are more modern such as Dear Evan Hasen and Hamilton of course haha but seeing older shows would also be amazing.

I'm so glad you enjoyed your experience so much; and I certainly wouldn't worry about being a "Plain Jane". I'm sure you looked just fine! You were there for the theater experience...not to show off your looks!

Yes, that is what I told my daughters. I was uploading an image for the post 5 times, but failed. I downloaded another one and there it is before the text.

Best seats in the house, yes, I did not even leave during the intermission. I was wowed,. Thank you. I am grateful there are artists passionate enough to entertain us.

Opera is one thing I might dress up for. Not a lot, but I might leave the checked shirt at home and wear something different :-) No make-up though. It itches. The Phantom of the opera is a great musical. I've seen it in Vienna and in London. Didn't see the Norwegian version when it was on in Oslo, I think I prefer it in English.

Yes, the opera is an event to dress up for. And yes, I did check my closet for a suitable wear. I did like the men in coat and tie, and young ladies in gowns, yet, there was this Chinese guy who came in knee-length everyday pants. This one time I think I was condescending, for on such events, one must rise up for the occasion. Glad you like the opera, too. The cast was led by Jonathan Roxmouth and he really was worthy of the role. My only regret was I never saw his handsome face. So, I resorted back to this Manila teaser, just to see his half a face again. Here it is.

@Torunn High heels is a privilege for the youth. That is why podiatrists have perpetuated. The Americans and Australians are really jeans and rucksack people, though many of the ladies walk in short shorts here, with spaghetti-strapped shirts. The weather here is hot. What did you study in Vienna? We consider it the musician's lore.

@eileenleyva When I studied in Vienna you could recognize the American and Australian tourists in the opera, 'cause they'd normally be the only ones with worn-out jeans and rucksacks. Since I was a student I often got a standing ticket, so I didn't dress up too much. I never uses high heeled shoes anymore, but I had some back then and they weren't comfortable enough to stand in for 3-5 hours.

Somehow, I was initially shocked, the characters, except for the female lead, were all so tall. I was at the VIP area and, not used to tall people, I thought I was watching a Land of the Giants show. My shock set aside, I was ushered into awe with intricate props, and period costumes, and wonderful rendition of the best loved themes of the Phantom of the Opera. The acting, of course, is par excellence. Really amazed with theater artists, because they perform night after night, and their performances remain like it was the first performance.

@amadeo My daughter followed Megan Picerno (Christine) on instagram. She responded. See, exhausted as she was, she takes time to check on her audience' reaction on her performance. That alone endeared her to us.

Thank you, Bree. That is heartwarming. My younger daughter commented I looked like I as going to office and not the opera. Sigh. I was going to display my simple white dress but the theater was so cold. I was chilled to the bone. I got warmer when the Phantom started, my physical state distracted by the somber mood of the opening scene,, and then the constantly changing of magnificent props, the backdrops, the intricate designs, and the high falutin period costumes. The music, of course, filled the soul. Yes, thank you, I enjoyed The Phantom of the Opera very much. Here's wishing you get your chance to view the same soon. Blessings.
