My grandson is a ball of energy. He is 6 and wakes up at 7ish in the mornings and if he is awake we are all awake. He goes all day and when he is put to bed at about 8 in the evening he doesn't settle. Sometimes he is still going 4 hours later .Hyper hyper hyper. The result is his sister cant get to sleep early as she has to sleep in the same room and she is exhausted. We are all worn out from his non stop energy. He only sleeps for about 7 hours most nights. He has been medically checked, allergy tested etc and nothing is wrong that they can see. He is just so full of energy all day long. How do people cope with this. We were hoping he would get better as he got older but it feels like he is getting worse.

I understand. Some kids are really hyper active and it is really a tough job to handle them

@amitkokiladitya Not a hope of him being quiet. He is a highly intelligent little fella and constantly asking questions and investigating things.

@teenal ohhh....then it is a trouble for sure. But I think a 6 year old boy is sensible enough to understand the situation and stay quiet. Isn't it?

I was the exact same way as a child. I literally did not know how to sleep! I honestly don't know how my parents put up with it -- the only way I could sleep without every fiber of my body, mind, and spirit fighting it every step of the way was to be burned out from exhaustion. I started taking melatonin when I got a little older (maybe 10ish), which helped. I've also used a white noise machine my whole life.

Well we didn't go as far as a hamster wheel but he has been brought out and run around parks, beaches, football fields etc and he just doesnt get tired at all. The only time he is sleepy is if he is ill.
