The new academic session started in our place at the end of March or beginning of April in all schools. So parents are busy with buying new books (texts and note), uniforms, Tiffin box, water bottle etc. We too.
However, I learnt many parents are buying the used books from known people around them. It is a good idea for using the second hand books which can ease the budget of the parents. On further asking, I also learnt many children submit their old texts to the school ‘book bank’, so that someone who can’t afford money for books will get benefit.
I felt, it is a great idea for helping the children come under the economically weaker session.
Another interesting fact I found it, children love to get the new texts instead of used one. However, they are ready to use the old books just for helping parents.
What do you think on using the used texts by children? Is new academic year started in your place?

It is not only good for budget but also for environment. And I encourage it. It also teaches respect for objects. I always say to my children that keep books in way that they can be used by others later.

My elder one's books always taken by a friend for her daughter. Since both were studying in the same school there was no problem. Younger is not that much keen to keep the books in shape. He least bothered about those things despite of telling him the same constantly by his father.

@Sreekala I keep my elder ones book for younger one or donate it to the home schooling set up where my younger one goes.

Oh, that is done a lot here and there are many many families here that just cannot afford all the books and all that goes with it.
There are used books in Libraries so for me its the same thing.

My elder son refused to study with the second hand books once we provided him to the same. He told me the book is marked all the places and he is helpless when teacher asked to mark something in book. So we provided him with new books in the rest of the classes.

That is a problem as well yes maybe the Teacher could think of a different way of doing things.
A lot of children here have second hand books there is just no way their parents can afford such things.

@lovinangelsinstead21 Some students note down all the lecutures in the text book here comes the problem. His book was good enough for using another person even though he used to mark the necessary things in the text.
I must say, new books are too costly.

This system of buying second hand books was in practice even during our time but one of my sisters kept her books so badly that they could not be sold (lol)

Here exam is continue. and new academic year will start in May. Here government is giving books to students in government school. Using old book are not bad thing. In my collage life I never bought any books. All books were issued by collage and they were old.

As long as they are in good shape I’m all for it! When I attended college most of my texts I bought second hand!
