Hello everyone, do you think that homework helps students to learn or it just waste their time? In my opinion it is bad for students because we should not forget that they are children and they must have time to play etc. What do you think about this? Should teachers give homework or not?

There's no easy to answer to that. Research has shown that it depends on how old the kids are, what kind of homework they're given and what's done with it afterwards.

@nick2345 But then, not enough homework isn't good enough either. So the answer will be different from class to class, subject to subject

Of course the right answer only an expert can give, but from my experience too much homework is not good for the students

Homework for me really helps the student to know more about the topic. but we need to observe first the student if they were able to understand the topic, if yes there willl be no homework but if they didnt understood the topic that the time homework will be given. I think this is the main reason why there is a homework.

I think it is good. It can help parents identify where their children can be in need of extra help or struggling. Teachers in big classrooms don't have the time to identify a child starting to fall behind so I think homework has a purpose.

I think suitable homework is OK. At least the students can spend a little time on study after school. And it is helpful for them to review the lessons by doing some homework.

You can't learn words of a foreign language by looking intelligently at them. You have to repeat them again and again. You can't do this at school. You have to do this at home. How much time is there at school to write assignments? To show that you're able to write a good assignment, you must write it at home. There are other subjects, too, for which homework makes sense. Of course, homework for children should not last for hours. I don't think that Australian teachers give their pupils so much homework that there is no time to play.

@MALUSE Of course you have to exercise your knowledge at home, also, I was born in Greece an my childhood was here, so I don't know how much homework Australian teachers give, but about Greece, believe me they give too much

Yes I do believe it really help coz once their at home ready and just think play and play they would forget right away what they tackle on that day, giving them homework would refresh their mind what they did today,or either giving them the chance to do advance study on the nxt lesson for tomorrow.

@nick2345 when you say too much definitely it's not good coz studying is proper energy draining aswell the kids needed rest too. Maybe 1 or 2 subjects per day or every other day might be enough.
